Seasick Steve

Colin, Jeb and I went along to the Music Hall last night to see the man of the moment. His support act was Amy Lavere (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amy_LaVere) who appeared with him recently on Jools' Later programme. This is a rather blurry shot of her in action:

Steve then took the stage - this time backed by a drummer who he identified only by the name "Animal".

A brief clip of Amy singing and playing her double bass - no burly roadies for her - she manhandled her double bass off stage herself, despite being a tiny little 5 footer:

One of Steve's early numbers was the title track from his latest album:

As well as the relatively conventional guitar he used here, he played the 3 string "trans wonder" and the 1 string "diddley bo" made out of a simple plank of wood - plus of course the famous "Mississippi drum machine".

Steve's last number was basically a lengthy diatribe of his early years and his relationships with his mother and step-father. The encore was 2 numbers, the last of which ended up as a call and response with the audience chanting along as Steve and his drummer slowly walked off stage waving goodnight - a novel way to end the evening.
