We all know Ian is far too modest to boast, but the following two clips from a very old P & J magically appeared in my photo library and so I thought I'd share them with you. The report is from an Aberdeenshire Cup Final when Fraserburgh beat Deveronvale 5-2. The records show that Fraserburgh won it in the 1975-76 season, so I assume this was the year the report was from:
The photo has obviously been taken from a phone camera so the quality is poor, but, if you click on the image above, you can enlarge it and read all about what Ian has regularly described as his wonder goal. The relevant sentence reads "Bowie's low drive was cleared by Scott but only in to the path of SHARP who first-timed a grounder into an empty net" . The P & J was perhaps a little less effusive than Ian's description? The goal put the Broch two up but Deveronvale got back level again before a late burst of 3 goals saw Fraserburgh win comfortably in the end. The report also mentions crowd trouble during the match - "Police and officials rushed into the grandstand after an outbreak of fighting and for a while there was as much action off the pitch as on it".
The next photo is of the victorious team. A prize to the winner of the spot-Sharpy competition:
Ian would have been a callow youth of 21 then.
