Steve couldn't make it on Friday but I was there to do the birthday honours in the Douglas:
On Saturday, Colin, Jeb, Andy M and I headed off on the train to Glasgow for an evening gig, and we left early enough to take in the Thistle - Dumbarton match at Firhill, where Andy posed with the Jags' mascot:
Jeb had made the reservations for our hotel rooms, but there was a bit of a mini-drama when we checked in and discovered that only one room had been booked. Initially it appeared that there were no other rooms at that hotel - or any other in the city centre - but we got lucky and another one suddenly became available at another hotel just as were trying to figure out what we were going to do about it. Jeb was set the task of quickly booking it online before somebody else nabbed it:
There was a follow-on potentially embarrassing "Dave Williamson" moment when CK and I checked in to our room and found out that it was a double bed, and not twins, that Jeb had apparently booked. However, it transpired that it was a hotel error and we were quickly re-housed in a more suitable room. After all that, a pint was called for and we all met up in the nearby Sir John Moores pub for a pre-gig drink:
Andy's son, James, a student in Glasgow, had joined us for the gig - and he's standing between his Dad and CK above.
We had a Thai meal immediately opposite the O2 where the gig was. Jeb had his back to the wall and accidentally knocked a picture frame off the wall - hence the slightly awkward look as he leans back to prop it up:
Post concert we went back to the Pot Still for some more ale and, as neither Jeb, Andy nor Colin had been at the Douglas on Friday night for my birthday drams, I thought it was only fair that we have another round - especially as this particular pub is famous for its range of whiskies, which are beautifully displayed on a large gantry:
For the record, it was Balvenie Doublewood this time.
