It was a disconsolate drive back north last night for the Banchory branch of the Partick Thistle Supporters' Club, having seen our team lose a prolonged penalty shoot-out to Div. 2 Champions Queen of the South at a packed Braidwood Motor Company Stadium, Livingston.
CK and I thought we might become one of a small elite group who had seen Thistle pick up 2 Cups in their lifetime, but it wasn't to be. It was probably worse for my boys who weren't even born when the Jags beat the 'Tic back in 1971.
Here's how it looked at the start:

We nearly witnessed a unique event during the penalty shoot-out. The QoS goalkeeper was trying to wind up all the Thistle penalty takers - so much so that the referee was on the point of giving him his second yellow card, which would have meant that he would have been off in the middle of the penalty shoot-out. I don't think this has ever happened before, as far as I am aware? Anyway, the referee bottled it and let him off with a couple of warnings.
Useful team QoS - some good-looking younger players like (son of Sandy) Nicky Clark, who scored his 34th goal of the season - and Queens' 100th. The diminutive right winger Danny Carmichael also took the eye and veteran Derek Lyle provided good support. Ex-Dons Derek Young and Michael Paton weren't quite as prominent.
QoS deserved their win, especially after also having beaten Rangers - again by penalties - in the semi-final, and it would be no surprise if they were front-runners in the 1st Division next year.
