Newcastle trip

From http://bvetsfootballgroup.blogspot.com/

We had targeted yesterday's match against the Champions for our return to Newcastle, but the change to a lunchtime kick-off meant an early start. Ken was spending the night in Edinburgh so he drove Colin and I down to there, where we caught the train down to Newcastle to meet up with a large contingent of Williamsons, most of whom had flown up from London.

Dave arrived well before us and spent the morning on various modes of transport - ferry and Metro mostly - with his sons. Ken, Colin and I arrived in time for a couple of swift pints before heading for the Platinum Club to meet up with the Williamson tribe. Chris Dickinson, a true Magpie, had told us how to make sure we got tickets and the best seats, and he had arranged everything for us. We had time to take a photo in front of Sir Bobby Robson's statue:

Like the recently erected one of Sir Alex at Old Trafford, it's not a great likeness, facially.

Super match - and City were very impressive going forward, particularly in the first half. Here's some pre-match scenes:

The advantage of lunchtime kick-offs is that there's still plenty of afternoon drinking time left - and we all made good use of that time in some of Newcastle's finest pubs.

Our train back was a bit delayed and it turned out to be a really long day for CK and I, but it was still a great day out - and one we intend to repeat before the end of the season. Quality football, great stadium and superb atmosphere, all within a day trip.
